THE LOTTERY PROJECT

The Lottery Project Artist’s Book is a curated collection of original artworks from, and writings on, the public art intervention of the same name. It is a reflection on culture and fortune, on art and economics; or the lack of these.

Veroni commenced work on The Lottery Project in 2002 (Glasgow, Scotland) as a response to what he viewed as the difficult position of the artist in relation to the two pillars of the current art scene: the art market and the cultural institutions of the state. Through The Lottery Project Veroni has entrusted the development of his artistic career to a third entity: Luck.

The Lottery Project Artist’s Book is a signed and numbered bilingual limited edition of 49 (the total set of numbers in national lotteries). Each book contains 49 inkjet prints onto original - but unsuccessful - lottery tickets from the UK, Argentina, Spain, Italy, Germany and the USA. As the origin of the tickets differs in each book, each is unique within the edition. The edition will be released and distributed gradually, as the artist continues to play the lottery and gathers enough tickets upon which to print and fill each book. In the eventuality that during this time he wins the lottery jackpot, he reserves the right to leave the edition uncompleted….

EL PROYECTO LOTERÍA

El libro de artista El Proyecto Lotería contiene 49 billetes originales de lotería intervenidos más una serie de escritos y documentos sobre el proyecto de arte público realizado bajo el mismo nombre y comenzado en Glasgow, Escocia en 2002.

El Proyecto Lotería es una reflexión sobre la cultura y la fortuna, el arte y la economía (o sobre la escacés de estas). El proyecto fue iniciado por Veroni en respuesta a la difícil situación de los artistas ante el estado (por medio de sus instituciones culturales) y el mercado, los dos pilares principales que se dividen la escena del arte actual. A través de esta obra Veroni confía su carrera artística a una tercera entidad: El Azar (para más información ver: www.thelotteryproject.com.ar).

El libro de artista El Proyecto Lotería se compone de 49 ejemplares numerados y firmados. En su interior contiene 49 impresos en inkjet sobre billetes de lotería no premiados (49 es el total de números a apostar en las loterías nacionales). La procedencia de los billetes difiere por cada libro; en su mayoría estos pertenecen a la National Lottery de Gran Bretaña, la Lotería Nacional de Argentina, las loterías nacionales de España y la München Lotterie de Bavaria.

El libro, como contenedor de la serie de grabados, fue comenzado en Buenos Aires en julio de 2006. La edición de sus ejemplares se irá realizando en la medida en que su autor juegue a la lotería y pueda disponer de los billetes perdedores para la impresión y consecución de las páginas de cada ejemplar. En el eventual caso de que el autor ganase la lotería éste no se compromete a finalizar la edición.
