El Proyecto Lotería fue iniciado por Veroni en respuesta a la dificil situación de los artistas ante el estado (por medio de sus instituciones culturales) y el mercado, los dos pilares principales que se dividen la escena del arte actual. A través de esta obra Veroni confía su carrera artística a una tercera entidad: el Azar.

Desde mediados de 2002 R.V. juega a la lotería e imprime sus diseños sobre la abundancia de billetes no premiados. El proyecto mantiene así un principio tan sólido como lineal: cada grabado vendido puede comprar un nuevo billete de lotería. La intención del artista es de este modo sostener la continuidad de la serie hasta dar con el billete ganador y abandonar al fin el mundo de "los tediosos contactos profesionales" para dedicarse por completo a la creación.

Mas allá de su lado práctico el Proyecto Lotería es a su vez una aguda reflexión sobre el binario sistema capitalista de ganar o perder. Diseños tales como Competitiveness (Competitividad), Army of Losers (Ejército de Perdedores) y Spending like Princes, Living like Plebs (Gastando como principes, viviendo como plebeyos) apuntan a las contradicciones de la vida moderna. Es interesante ver en otros diseños (Existencia, En mi fuerza esta mi Esperanza) referencias poéticas con proyectos anteriores como es el caso de su serie de Lambda prints.

No falta tampoco en la serie la crítica política, un ejemplo concreto sería The Sound of Money (El Sonido del Dinero) donde el modificado símbolo de la libra esterlina y los pozos de petroleo hacen mención a la reciente guerra en Irak.

La serie consta a la fecha de 49 diseños (el total de números a jugar en la lotería británica). Cada diseño esta impreso en inkjet en una tiraje de 49 copias cada uno. Numerados y firmados por el autor.

Veroni commenced work on The Lottery Project as a response to what he views as the difficult position of the artist in relation to the two pillars of the current art scene: the art market and the cultural institutions of the state. Through The Lottery Project Veroni entrusts the development of his artistic career to a third entity: Luck.

Since 2002 R.V. has played the UK National Lottery and has printed his designs onto an abundance of unsuccessful lottery tickets. The project maintains a solid core principle: that each print sold can buy a new ticket. In this way Veroni´s intention is to maintain the continuity of the series until the point where he buys that jackpot-winning ticket. Thus the artist will abandon the "tedious world of professional contacts" and finally dedicate himself fulltime to creation.

Beyond its practical side The Lottery Project is a pointed reflection on the binary capitalist system of winners and losers. Designs such as Competitiveness, Army of Losers and Spending like Princes, Living like Plebs address the contradictions of modern life. It is also interesting to see in other images (Existence, In my Strength is my Hope) poetical references and cross-overs with previous projects, as is the case with his series of Lambda prints.

In some cases there is also an acute political critique: a clear example of which is The Sound of Money where a modified pound sterling symbol appearing alongside a group of oil wells, making direct reference to the recent conflict in Iraq.

To date The Lottery Project series comprises 49 designs (the total set of numbers to play in the UK National Lottery). Each design is inkjet printed in an edition of 49, numbered and signed by the artist.
