Esta serie de 22 fotografías digitales, al igual que los trabajos posteriores, responde a una estructura de símbolos donde el artista intenta personificar todas aquellas entidades que “de un modo u otro forman parte o dominan nuestra existencia”.

Es interesante comparar la serie de Buenos Aires con este trabajo. El método de ejecución es el mismo, sin embargo, todas las imágenes con inflexiones políticas y sociales del primero se vuelven mas bien estéticas y filosóficas en el segundo.

Glasgow es al igual que Buenos Aires una serie fotográfica y un libro de artista. En Glasgow ya no abundan las notas explicativas en el index o las capas de sentido social o político detrás de la imagen. RV tiene para esta ciudad la mirada del viajero y deja para el observador una interpretación abierta.

Una excepción podría ser Monumento a la Existencia. El personaje que sostiene los dos rostros de una pesa se yergue sobre el cenotafio a los caidos en la guerra. El resto de las imágenes son amplias alusiones a los poderes que nos llevan o nos acosan: Día de Mala Suerte, Día de Buena Suerte, Tiempo piensa, se combinan con paisajes de la ciudad que curiosamente, aun sin la intervención de los caracteres, cobran en este contexto cierto animismo (Belleza, Imagen III).

El libro de artista La Princesa tiene varios puntos en común con esta serie. Las poesías que RV escribió para este libro y su publicación en la web – www.princesaenglasgow.com.ar - se pueden tomar como un apéndice de Glasgow que ayuda a crear el ambiente adecuado para contemplar esta serie fotográfica.

This series of 22 lambda prints, as with RV’s previous digital works, is based on a structure of symbols where the artist attempts to personify the entities “which in one way or another are part of, or dominate, our existence”.

It is interesting to compare the Buenos Aires series with this project. The method of work is the same, although the images that in Buenos Aires have political and social inflections, become more aesthetic and philosophical in the Glasgow series.

Glasgow is both a photographic compilation and an artist’s book. In Glasgow there is no longer a profusion of explanatory notes -as in Buenos Aires- nor different layers of political and social meaning behind the image. RV has for this city a traveller’s eye and he leaves the viewer with an open interpretation.

An exception to the rule may be Monument to Existence. Here, the character stands on the cenotaph to the war dead, holding a two face weight. The rest of the images are wide allusions to the powers that carry us or menace us, such as: Day of Bad Luck, The Lucky Day, Time Thinks. These are combined with images of cityscapes that within this context, curiously gain a certain kind of animism, even without the insertion of any entity: Beauty, Plate III.

The artist’s book La Princesa is closely related to this lambda print series. The poems written by RV for this book and its web publication – www.princesaenglasgow.com.ar - can be seen as an appendix that helps to create an appropriate atmosphere through which to approach this series.
