La serie La Argentina fue realizada durante las últimas
semanas de 2001.
En Diciembre de ese año Argentina sufre una de sus peores
crisis. Una aguzada recesión económica y un alarmante
nivel de desempleo acentúan el descontento y la crítica
hacia la clase política. La decisión de retener las
cuentas bancarias o de devolver pesos por dólares evidentemente
no ayuda a mejorar la ya delicada situación.
La declaración del estado de sitio por parte del gobierno
provoca el instantáneo desafío de una masiva movilización
popular y, a la vez, como respuesta por parte del gobierno, el despliegue
de una violenta represión policial. En consecuencia el gobierno
se debilita aún más y en la última semana del
año los argentinos ven pasar en rápida sucesión
cinco presidentes.
Al crear esta serie Ral Veroni recurre a los emblemas de sus trabajos
anteriores (Tramas y Mandalas).
Dentro del contexto histórico estas nuevas imágenes
cobran un sentido más específico y crítico.
Sobre un fondo celeste y blanco, los colores nacionales, y en forma
de escarapelas o banderas Veroni distribuye los elementos para crear
mensajes bien definidos por los títulos: En Mi Fuerza esta
mi Esperanza, Mandala de la Injusticia, o mi favorito Trama de la
Existencia, entre otros.

The ‘Argentina’ series was made during
the last two weeks of 2001.
In December of that year Argentina suffered one of its worst political
crises: an acute recession and an alarming rise in unemployment
accentuated the general discontent. The widespread criticism of
the corrupt political classes began to grow.
The government’s decision to retain the bank savings of the
citizens, or to give back pesos in place of dollars, did nothing
to lighten this situation.
The government’s declaration of a curfew provoked an instant
reaction and the mass mobilisation of the people challenged this
measure. A violent police repression followed. In consequence the
Executive weakened itself, and in the last week of the year the
Argentines saw a fast succession of five presidents come and go.
To create this series Ral Veroni returns to the
symbology of previous works (Patterns
and Mandalas). Within this specific historical context the new
series takes on a poignant meaning. On light blue and white backgrounds
(the national flag colours), in the shape of flags and insignias,
RV distributes the elements to create messages well defined by their
titles: In my Strength is my Hope, Mandala of Injustice and, my
favourite, Pattern of Existence, amongst others.
